The initial story began when a Soviet watch making plant was shifted to Chistopol, Tatarstan Russia. Since this was during the period of the World War, the factory manufactured only defence equipment for the Soviet military. After the war ended, the plant began manufacturing mechanical timepieces.
The 1960s saw the emergence of the Vostok brand, the name apparently inspired by the Russian space program. In 1965,Vostokwas the Russian Defence Ministry’s official watch supplier. The iconic “Komandirskie” watch model was created in the same year. Gaining experience and a standing in the watch industry, the brand’s next launch was the Amphibia – a dive watch that boasted of 200m water resistance capability. By the 1980s Vostok was producing millions of mechanical timepieces every year.
Vostok launched a collection of 1940s-inspired watches in the 21st century -known as the Kirovskie K-43 Collection, followed by another one with luxury watches called Kremlevskie Collection. These were limited edition watches aimed at the luxury market. Over the years, the brand has never looked back, churning out some of the most dependable mechanical watches with intriguing designs inspired by extreme sports and collections being named after the Russian achievements in engineering, explorations and space.
